Diocese of Kostroma and Galich

Kostroma and Galich diocese ((ロシア語:Костромская и Галичская епархия)) is an eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church. It Combines parishes and monasteries in the Kostroma Oblast. Cathedral City - Kostroma. Traditionally, the cathedral was the Assumption Cathedral in Kostroma. Currently cathedrals - Cathedral of Epiphany-Anastasiin Monastery in Kostroma and Galich Vvedenskii.

June 18, 1744 Synod sent to Empress Elizabeth "humbly report", in which "the churches of the saints for better governance and institutions of church decorum" offered to establish in Vladimir, Kostroma, Pereslavl and Tambov new bishoprics. July 16, 1744, Empress Elizabeth Petrovna signed a decree establishing four "noble cities," including "in the Kostroma" episcopal. Bishop was appointed Simon (Todorsky), which however did not have time to visit the cathedral city. The first time he, as a member of the Holy Synod, it was necessary to stay in the capital, and already 18 August 1745, he was transferred to the Department of Pskov.

With the movement of Bishop Simon (Todorsky) in Kostroma was appointed rector of the Kiev Theological Academy, Archimandrite Sylvester (Kulyabko), who was consecrated bishop of Kostroma and Galich in St. Petersburg November 10, 1745. The new bishop came to the fire at the end of January 1746 and settled in the Cathedral of Holy Trinity Ipatiev monastery, which until 1918 was the official residence of the bishops of Kostroma.
